Challenge: Physical Presence

Cultivating connection with other people takes work! But it’s some of the most rewarding work you can do.

A recent study surveying people’s happiness strategies found that people who pursued at least one social strategy tended to follow through and spend more time socializing that year, and they (in turn) became more satisfied with their lives.

This backs up research from earlier studies that show very happy people tend to hand strong relationship, socializing is one of the most positive daily activities you can do, and social connection is the key to well-being.

So let’s get social!

If you’re not used to building and maintaining relationships, it might seem like a lot of effort at first. But as with most things, it gets easier and easier as you get the hang of it. This weekend, make an effort to spend time with friends, whether they’re new or old. Hangouts with friends can be really fulfilling and can help you feel more connected and supported. So don’t be afraid to put in a little bit of effort to hang out with the people you care about. It’s worth it!

If you don’t have a social circle you love…

If you’re looking for ways to build your social circle, there are plenty of options out there! Facebook Events, Meetup, and Eventbrite are all great resources to find social groups and events in your area. Don’t worry if you don’t have a group of friends like the ones in “Sex and the City” – it’s important to be selective in who you surround yourself with and it’s normal to go through periods of rebuilding your social circle. I recently did this myself as I’ve been focusing on personal growth and setting boundaries. It can be tough to realize that you’ve outgrown some of your old friends, but it’s all part of the journey.

If you already have a social circle…

If you already have a social circle that you love, try planning an activity that stimulates you and your friends. While a casual wine night and good conversation are always enjoyable, you can also try doing something more hands-on, like hosting a potluck or cooking together. Going on a hike, doing a craft, or having a full moon or new moon circle are also great options that can nourish the mind, body, and soul while also fostering deeper bonds and feelings of fulfillment.
