In a previous module, we focused on the power of sending love and positivity to those closest to us. Today, I want to challenge you to take it one step further by sending love to someone who may be more difficult to love. Someone who has been a challenge in our lives, but is still present for some reason.
It’s important to remember that while you may not be able to change a difficult person, you can change your perception of them. You can try to cultivate empathy and understand that you do not have the whole story. You don’t know what they have been through or what their defense mechanisms are.
A spiritual teacher once shared a profound insight with me, they said that when we have an adverse reaction to someone, it’s often because they’re mirroring a part of ourselves that we’re also rejecting. So this exercise is not just about sending love to someone else, but also an opportunity to work on yourself and your own reactions.
Action:
For this challenge, write down all the good things about someone who has been historically difficult in your life. Be as detailed as possible, and try to cultivate love for this person as if you’re the only one who understands them and you’re trying to convince others to give them another chance.
As a bonus, try telling this person some of the things you love about them. Create some positive energy between the two of you.”
