Do you feel like you’re always the one giving and never receiving? Or maybe you feel like you’re always the one doing and never being.
You may not realize it, but these are signs of a codependent relationship. And if you resonate with these statements, your dependency may be around feeling in control.
The thing is, we can’t control other people. We can only control ourselves. And when we try to control others, we are really just trying to control the situation.
We want things to be a certain way, and we think that if we can just control the other person, then everything will be okay.
But it doesn’t work like that.
All we can do is control ourselves. And when we try to control others, we are really just causing more problems.
So how do we break the cycle of codependency? How do we stop trying too hard to control others so we can finally take care of ourselves?
That’s what we’re talking about today, and I’m really excited about our guest because she wrote the book that helped me get my life back over 15 years ago. Her name is Melanie Beattie, and she’s the author of “Codependent No More,” as well as “The Language of Letting Go,” “The Grief Club,” and “Beyond Codependency.”
Newsweek also named “Codependent No More” one of the four essential self-help books of all time.
We Will Learn
- The psychological reasons why we try to control.
- Why detachment is necessary for a healthy life and how to practice it.
- How to break free from the cycle of codependency so you can start caring for yourself.
